Rajasthan Govt directs 32 medical officers to join duty, warns of disciplinary action

Jaipur: The Rajasthan health department has directed 32 government medical officers to report for duty immediately and explain their absence after they failed to report to their assigned postings issued by the state government on August 19, 2026.
The doctors, who had earlier completed their postgraduate studies over the past year or were awaiting fresh posting orders, were required to resume service at health institutions across the state. However, according to health department officials, they did not report for duty at their designated facilities.

Officials said the doctors, all MBBS officers who had been granted study leave to pursue postgraduate education, were expected to return to government service after completing their courses. Their failure to join despite formal posting orders has been viewed as non-compliance with government directions.
Speaking to TOI, a senior health department official said the conduct amounted to disregard of govt orders and directions issued by senior officers, besides negligence towards official duties. The department has treated the matter as serious, particularly because seasonal disease risks are rising and medical officers are required to be available at public health facilities to maintain essential services.
The 32 medical officers have been directed to submit written explanations within three days of receiving the notices. Their replies must clearly state the reasons for their absence and include specific comments from the concerned controlling officer.
The department has warned that failure to respond within the stipulated period could lead to disciplinary action under the applicable CCA Rules.
The notice also makes the officers personally responsible for non-compliance and warns that further action may be initiated if they continue to remain absent from duty.
Health department officials said the postings were intended to strengthen medical services across different districts. Delays in doctors assuming charge can increase the workload on existing medical staff at government hospitals, community health centres and other public health facilities.
