26 UP Govt doctors dismissed for prolonged absence, action against 9 others

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has ordered strict action against doctors for allegedly remaining absent for prolonged periods and failing to discharge their responsibilities at government hospitals. Twenty-six doctors have been dismissed from service, while action has also been ordered against nine other doctors.

The action followed a review by the Health Department of cases involving doctors accused of prolonged absence and negligence, officials said on Thursday.

According to the PTI report, departmental action has also been ordered against nine other doctors for allegedly disobeying orders of senior officials and negligence in medical duties, it added.

“The primary responsibility of doctors posted in government hospitals is to provide timely, better and quality treatment to patients. Strict action will continue against those who remain absent from duty or neglect their medical responsibilities,” Pathak said.

He directed officials to regularly monitor doctors’ attendance, OPD and IPD services and the treatment being provided to patients in government hospitals, the release said.

The dismissed doctors include specialists and medical officers and were posted in districts including Firozabad, Aligarh, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Mahoba, Bulandshahr, Lucknow, Balrampur, Mathura, Mirzapur, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Chandauli, Mainpuri, Mau, Sultanpur and Muzaffarnagar.

The release also said that the orders for departmental proceedings against nine doctors were issued by the deputy chief minister through the Health additional chief secretary.

The department said action would be taken in accordance with the rules if negligence is found at any level.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi dismissed a government doctor from service after he was convicted in a corruption case, a government statement said. According to a statement, the CMO said that, continuing the state government’s tough stand against corruption, the chief minister has dismissed the doctor, former Medical Officer of Gurundia CHC, Sundergarh district. He is currently working at Gurundi CHC, Gajapati district.
