Renowned Diabetologist Dr V Mohan Invited to President's At Home Reception

Chennai: Dr V Mohan, renowned diabetologist and Chairman of Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, has been invited by the President of India, Her Excellency, Smt. Droupadi Murmu for 'At Home Reception' at Rashtrapati Bhavan, coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations on 26th January.

Dr Mohan is among 11 doctors invited from all over the country and the only one from Tamil Nadu. Dr Mohan has carried out extensive research on diabetes over the last 50 years, including several pan-India studies on the Epidemiology of Diabetes, monogenic diabetes and gestational diabetes.

Dr V Mohan has over 1800 publications, which include over 1200 original articles which have received 257,000 citations and an i10 index of 1222. He is rated as the topmost medical researcher in India by Stanford University, and his work has an h-index of 173, which is not only the highest among all medical doctors but also one of the highest among all scientists in India.

Dr Mohan also provides free treatment for thousands of poor patients, including several hundred children with type 1 diabetes, for whom he provides not only free treatment but also free insulin and even free insulin pumps to some. He has conducted over 25000 free diabetes camps.

In 2012, Dr Mohan was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. He is also a recipient of the Dr B C Roy Award from the Medical Council of India. Dr Mohan has been honoured internationally with the Harold Rifkin Award and the Kelly West Award by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and, recently, by the European Society of Study of Diabetes(EASD) with the first-ever EASD Global Diabetes Impact Prize, and he is the first Indian to have received these three awards from these international organizations.
