Ranchi: Renowned plastic surgeon and mentor, Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, has been selected as a member of the 30-member elite panel of the Journal of the Indian Medical Association (JIMA). This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Jharkhand’s medical fraternity.

Dr. Prasant Kumar Bhattacharya, the national secretary of JIMA, formally announced the members of the list of the Advisory Committee and requested Dr. Kalol Sen, the editor of JIMA, to coordinate with the newly appointed members. Their collective expertise will be leveraged to enhance the publication quality of the journal, which publishes original research papers and case reports from doctors across India, reports The Jharkhand Story.

Dr. Singh, who serves as the coordinator of the Jharkhand chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and is a former national vice-president of IMA, is the only representative from Jharkhand selected for the JIMA Advisory Committee. Dr. D.P. Singh of Bhagalpur has been chosen as the sole representative from Bihar.

According to Daily, experts believe that Dr Singh’s selection will benefit medical teachers and research scholars in Jharkhand, as it is expected to create greater opportunities for their research to be published in JIMA. The lack of research publications in recognized journals has previously been a barrier for senior medical teachers, sometimes resulting in the rejection of promotions by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

A veteran plastic surgeon, Dr Singh is widely regarded as one of the most experienced professionals guiding the IMA national body and its various panels for the betterment of medical professionals. Following the announcement, office bearers of the Jharkhand chapter of IMA, the Jharkhand State Health Services Association (JSHSA), the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), and the IMA Junior Doctors Network (JDN) state body extended their congratulations to Dr. Singh. They described his selection as a moment of pride for the medical community in Jharkhand.

The Journal of the Indian Medical Association (JIMA) was founded by doyens of Medical Profession namely Sir Nilratan Sircar, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, Dr Kumud Sankar Ray and others in the year 1930 with only 122 Doctors. Indian Medical Association launched its journal in the name of “Indian Medical World”. The first issue was published in March 1930, under the able Editorship of Sir Nil Ratan Sircar. Dr A. N. Ghosh was the Secretary.
