RG Kar PG Medico Murder Case: Nurses hold protest, demand strict action
Kolkata: In response to the alleged rape and murder of a female postgraduate medico at the Department of Chest Medicine at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, nurses hold protest on Saturday, demanding proper action in the incident.
The doctor, pursuing PG Respiratory Medicine, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the seminar hall of the city-based R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Her body was found in half-naked condition with several injury marks, raising suspicions of brutal rape and murder.
The inquest report prepared by the police recorded bleeding from both the eyes and her mouth, injury on the face and nails, bleeding from her genitals, and several other injury marks in different parts of the body. Reportedly, the doctor was on duty and after completing her 36-hour shift, she went to study in the seminar hall, from where her body was recovered in the morning by the hospital staff.
Earlier on Friday, Dr Sandip Ghosh, Principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, commented on the incident, saying, "This is a tragic event. We will only know the cause of death after the postmortem. As the Principal and Head of Administration, I am ensuring that all necessary steps are being taken in the inquiry. Everything is being done properly. Such an incident has never happened before at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital", news agency ANI reported.
