Srikakulam: In a shocking incident, a female house surgeon at the Government Medical College Hospital, Srikakulam also known as RIMS (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences) has come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against an Assistant Professor at the institute.

Demanding action against the assistant professor, the surgeon filed a complaint with the Director of Medical Education (DME) and it was registered on Friday. The assistant professor is currently on leave as a probe has been ordered against him concerning the allegations.

It came to light that the house surgeon, who had been subjected to alleged harassment by the assistant professor, had previously reported these cases to the officials at RIMS. However, no appropriate measures were taken by the authorities to address the situation effectively. Following this, the professor allegedly continued with his harassment.

In response to the complaint, RIMS College Principal V Venkata Chalam and RIMS Hospital Development Advisory Board Member V Vijaya Kumar instructed the Assistant Professor to take a leave. Consequently, the assistant professor adhered to the directive and proceeded on leave on Saturday.

In light of the serious nature of the allegations, the DME has directed the RIMS principal to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and submit a detailed report at the earliest.
