Shivamogga: In a shocking incident, a government doctor has been booked along with five others in connection with a foeticide case involving a minor girl in Shivamogga district. Police have arrested one youth in connection with the case.

According to the news reports, the doctor allegedly performed an illegal abortion on a minor girl at a private hospital after she became pregnant following a sexual assault. The minor’s parents reportedly sought the youth’s assistance to terminate the pregnancy.

The police have also registered a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case in connection with the assault, which was filed in late September, officials confirmed.

Speaking to TOI, ASP Benaka Prasad said a POCSO case has been registered against the accused. The IPS officer denied any delay in the investigation, but admitted that some accused are absconding.

Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr. Nataraj mentioned that the health department will take disciplinary action after the police investigation is completed.

The case has sparked concern, raising questions about medical ethics and the misuse of medical facilities for illegal abortions.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a
joint raid by health and police officials in Perambalur on Tuesday led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man for running an unauthorised clinic from his residence for several years. The accused was reportedly found treating patients without holding any recognised medical qualification or licence. Acting on a tip-off, Dr. Marimuthu and police officers inspected Rajendran’s premises. During the raid, officials seized various medical instruments, including a stethoscope, glucometer, sphygmomanometer, IV sets, dextrose bottles, tablets, and other medicines, many of which appeared to have been used.
