Siddha doctor, policeman dies in road accident in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly hitting a woman siddha doctor and a policeman to death in a road accident on Thursday evening. 

According to the police, the doctor and the policeman were on their way to Neelambur when the accident occurred.  

On July 13th, the cop, a grade-II constable attached to the city armed reserve police was riding a motorcycle with his friend who was a government doctor. The cop was a 26-year-old native of Veeranam in Salem district and the doctor was a 33-year-old native of Periyakulam in Theni district.

As per a media report in TOI, both of them were returning from Gandhipuram after shopping when they met with the unfortunate incident which took their life at around 5.25 pm once they reached Neelambur. A Tirupur-bound truck loaded with motors and pumps hit the motorcycle from behind. Following this, they came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot.  

The locals after witnessing the accident, contacted the police who investigated arriving on the spot. It is unclear whether the driver of the truck fled from the scene, however, he was later nabbed by the police.     

A postmortem was conducted at the ESI Medical College Hospital after the police sent their bodies. Further investigation into the case is underway.
