Siliguri: A government doctor at a district hospital in Siliguri has been accused of physically assaulting and slapping a woman patient during treatment.

According to Siliguri Times, the doctor has denied the allegations and stated that the patient had psychological issues and that he had followed standard treatment protocols.

The family members of the patient alleged that the doctor behaved in an 'inhumane' way while treating her. They added that doctors are responsible for patient safety, but instead, he assaulted her.

Siliguri Times reported that the incident took place on Thursday when the patient arrived at Siliguri District Hospital with breathing problems. Her family stated that the attending doctor initially dismissed her condition as non-serious and allowed her to leave. But once outside, her condition worsened, forcing her family to rush her back to the hospital, where she was admitted to the observation ward.

According to the family, the doctor behaved harshly with the patient and allegedly slapped her during treatment. They claimed his actions were inhumane and completely unacceptable, especially from a doctor who is responsible for patient safety.

Following this, the family protested inside the hospital against the doctor's conduct. Soon after, the police arrived and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the accused doctor strongly denied all the allegations and stated that the patient was not slapped and that her condition was not in a critical state. "She had psychological issues, and measures like giving water and encouraging movement were part of standard medical care or the line of treatment," he said.

An investigation is underway in this regard.
