Govt doctor allegedly slaps, abuses patient at UP Hospital; probe ordered
Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a video of a government doctor allegedly slapping and verbally abusing a patient admitted to a ward at UP Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Saifai in Etawah went viral on social media.
Following this, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio, has ordered a probe into the case.
The video clip, which went viral on Sunday, sparked outrage among netizens. The doctor who is the assaulter in the video is the resident doctor of the Orthopedic Department of the hospital.

It appears that the doctor argued with the patient and then suddenly slapped him. Following this, the hospital staff asked the doctor to contact their seniors regarding the case and not assault the patient in the ward.
In response to this, the doctor was heard saying to the hospital staff that he repeatedly warned the patient not to repeat his “mistakes”, and slapped him as the patient was not paying heed to his advice.
One of the most shocking aspects of the incident is the fact that two police officers stood there watching the doctor assault the patient in the ward. No action or any sign of protest was shown by the policemen.
After the video gained attention from the netizens who expressed their anger against the doctor and the two police officers, The Etawa police department tweeted saying "In connection with the case, Inspector-in-Charge Police Station Saifai has been directed to take necessary action after investigation."
Reacting to the video, a netizen said, "Some people become too proud, then they forget their rituals by being blinded by pride, as seen in the video that two policemen are also sitting, the whole ward is full of patients and relatives, but all are sitting as mute spectators."
Pathak has asked the vice-chancellor of the institute to conduct an inquiry so that action may be taken against the guilty.
“Laxity in duty will not be tolerated,” he said.
