Solapur Neurologist Suicide Case: Court extends Admin officer's Custody

Solapur: In a latest development in the Dr. Shirish Valsangkar suicide case, the session court in Solapur has granted police two more days of custody of the accused administrative officer of S P Institute of Neurosciences. 

The accused, who was arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of the renowned neurologist and was serving in judicial custody, was produced in the court again as police sought further time for investigation. During the hearing, the police presented fresh allegations related to financial misconduct against her.

According to the police, they have so far questioned 42 witnesses in the case. They claim that their investigation has revealed major financial irregularities linked to SP Neuroscience Hospital, where the accused had a key role.

ABP has reported that the police told the court that the accused has three bank accounts with suspicious transactions. They alleged that she did not pay taxes of around Rs 70 lakh in these accounts. They also found that around Rs 39 lakh was available in her accounts, and the source of the amount is unknown other than her salary.  The police also claimed that she gave cash payments to hospital staff and transferred the money to the bank.

However, the defence argued that she was neither accused by Dr. Shirish Valsangkar, the deceased, nor his son, Dr. Ashwin Valsangkar, who is the complainant, of financial wrongdoing. They added that the police are using the same reasons repeatedly to oppose her bail application.

Considering both sides, the court has ultimately granted the police two days to interrogate her and investigate the matter. 

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a city-based renowned neurologist, Dr Shirish Padmakar Valsangkar, owner of Valsangkar Hospital, also known as the S P Institute of Neurosciences, committed suicide after shooting himself in the head with his licensed revolver at his residence.

Following this, Solapur police arrested the administrative officer of the S P Institute of Neurosciences in connection with the suicide of Dr Shirish Walsangkar. The accused was booked on charges of abetment to suicide after her name surfaced in a note left by Dr Walsangkar.

According to the police, Dr. Walsangkar’s suicide note alleged that the accused, whom he had mentored and appointed, made false and obscene allegations against him, causing him severe mental distress. Investigators also recovered an email dated April 17, 2025, reportedly sent by the accused to Dr. Walsangkar. In it, she expressed distress over circulating rumours and hinted at suicidal thoughts if the situation was not resolved.

Following the email, Dr Walsangkar reportedly called the accused to the hospital, where she apologised for her remarks. However, later that evening, Dr Walsangkar was found dead at his home.
