Hyderabad: The Telangana government has been urged by the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) to immediately appoint an interim in-charge commissioner for the Directorate of Secondary Health Care (DSHC) to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the department.

The appeal comes ahead of the retirement of the current DSHC commissioner, formerly known as the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), scheduled for May 31.

According to the news reports, TGGDA leaders recommended that the government appoint the senior-most civil surgeon specialist as the interim commissioner, in line with the principle of vertical seniority. They said this approach would help maintain stability in leadership and ensure effective administrative decision-making during the transition period.

The association further stated that respecting seniority in appointments would help maintain harmony within the medical fraternity and boost confidence among govt doctors working in the secondary healthcare system across the state, reports TOI.

Speaking to Hans India, Association President Narahari stated that such an appointment would be highly beneficial under current circumstances. He emphasised that a senior officer brings vast field experience and an understanding of ground realities within the public health system. This ensures the effective implementation of ongoing programmes without any disruption to vital medical services.

The matter now rests with the state health administration, which is expected to decide on the interim arrangement ahead of the commissioner’s retirement.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGGDA) has raised serious concerns over delayed salaries and administrative failures in hospitals run under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP). The association indicated that the situation is affecting both patient care and the morale of the medical staff. According to the association, doctors and other hospital staff working under TVVP have not been receiving their salaries on time for several months.
