Threat Culture Allegations: 51 doctors, students summoned by RG Kar Medical College authorities
Hospitals in Ahmedabad to Halt Cashless Services for Three Insurers
Kolkata: Through a recent notice, the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital authorities have summoned 51 doctors, house staff and interns from several departments and professors to appear before the Enquiry Committee on September 11 regarding allegations of threat culture against the juniors.
These medical professionals have been accused of engaging in behaviour that promotes a culture of intimidation, endangering the democratic atmosphere of the institution. As a result, they have been sent notices to present themselves to defend their innocence. Meanwhile, the authorities have also prohibited the 51 doctors from accessing the campus and have restricted their involvement in college activities.
It has been alleged that most of these doctors had connections and were close associates of former principal of R G Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh who is a prime suspect in the rape and murder case that took place on August 9.

A notice issued in this regard stated, "The esteemed College Authorities have taken notice of the grave concerns raised by the Resident Doctors' Association of RG Kar Medical College during the Special Council Meeting on September 9, 2024. In a formal letter, it was brought to our attention that they have been engaging in behaviour that promotes a culture of intimidation, endangering the democratic atmosphere of the institution.
As a result, the following doctors and students in question are required to present themselves positively before the Enquiry Committee on September 11, 2024 to defend their innocence. According to the decision made by the Special Council Committee, access to the institution's campus is restricted for them, unless summoned by the Enquiry Committee. Additionally, participation in college activities is prohibited."
The list of those summoned includes- 2 senior resident doctors, 1 research scientist medical, 20 house staff, 11 interns and 17 professors.
