Police Hunt for Driver Who Killed Doctor in Sector 69

Mohali: In a tragic incident, a doctor riding a motorcycle was killed after being hit by a speeding car near Doon School in Sector 69, Mohali, on Friday evening. The driver fled the scene immediately, prompting the police to register a case and launch a search operation.

According to the news reports, the incident occurred around 8 pm when the deceased, identified as Dr Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Sector 71, was riding his motorcycle from his home towards Sector 79. His brother was following him on a separate motorcycle. As they reached near Doon School, an allegedly speeding Alto car hit the doctor from behind, causing serious injuries.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. Following the collision, the car driver escaped from the vehicle.

Police officials said they are scanning footage from CCTV cameras installed in and around the area to identify the absconding driver and the vehicle involved in the accident.

After conducting the post-mortem, police handed the body over to the family. The police station in charge assured that the driver would be arrested soon. The victim's family has demanded strict action against the culprit, reports TOI.

The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and hit-and-run cases in the city.

The deceased, identified as Lavnish Chauhan, died on the spot due to the severe impact, which caused fatal head injuries. According to the police, the speeding car hit her, throwing her into the air before she landed hard on the road. The incident occurred while she was crossing the Ludhiana-Delhi national highway in Khanna, returning to her rented accommodation after completing her night shift at the hospital.
