Warangal: Two doctors and a person associated with the MGM Hospital have been suspended by the hospital superintendent for their negligence in the discharge of duties.

According to a couple who visited the MGM Hospital recently, two doctors demanded bribe to stitch their wounds. The hospital on Monday suspended those two doctors and a helper for medical negligence.

The suspended staff has been identified as Dr Riteesh, Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) on contract, Dr K Ranjith, Asst. Professor of General Surgery on contract, and Md Amjad Ali.

The incident took place when the couple identified as B Ramakrishna and Saraswathi went to the hospital to get stitches on their head on Sunday. Unfortunately, the doctors refused to treat the injury after the couple refused to give them money.

The doctors told the couple they needed to pay money so that they can purchase surgical thread outside the hospital since the thread was not available at the hospital. However, the couple was unable to wait any longer due to their serious head injury and was asked to pay Rs 350 to get the stitching done and medicines by Md Amjad Ali.

Upon learning about the matter, the superintendent of the hospital along with corporator Suresh Kumar Joshi filed a complaint against the doctors and the helper. The hospital also warned three nurses identified as Yaka Lakshmi, M Jyothi, and K Sujatha for their irregularity in work at the hospital as the nurses were also held responsible for failing to notice the matter.

The MGM hospital Superintendent told Telangana Today "We have suspended Amjad for demanding bribe for making stitches to a couple on Sunday. The couple who suffered head injury came to the hospital on Sunday, but he had allegedly demanded and accepted bribe claiming that there was no surgical thread at the hospital," the Superintendent said.

In response to the shortage of surgical thread at the hospital, the Superintendent claimed that there was plenty of suture material available at the hospital.
