Unfortunate: Prominent Gynaecologist Dr Surekha Berlota dies in car accident

Yavatmal: In an unfortunate incident, a 46-year-old prominent gynaecologist of Yavatmal, Dr Surekha Berlota, died on the spot after their car crashed on the national highway between Hyderabad and Nirmal, while three others sustained injuries. 

The incident took place on Tuesday at 3.30 pm when Dr Berlota along with her husband Piyush and her daughters Pooja, and Athithi, were returning from Dubai after spending six days on vacation there. The family left for Dubai on October 25 and returned to Hyderabad on Tuesday.

While on their way to Yavatmal, Piyush, who was driving the SUV car lost control of the steering wheel as the tyre of the car burst near a toll check post, 12km from Nirmal town and crashed into a tree at Ganjal village in Soan Mandal.

According to TOI reports, locals took the injured to a government hospital in Nirmal after taking them out of the crashed car. However, Dr Surekha Berlota did not make it and died on the spot.

The injured family members are now stable. Friends and relatives of Dr Berlota from the medical field immediately went to Nirmal after getting the news. Officials of the Doctors Association of Hyderabad also reached the spot.

A case has been registered by the police and an investigation is underway. A post-mortem was performed at Nirmal's Government Hospital on the dead body of Dr. Surekha Barlota.

Police said that Dr Surekha's body is expected to be brought to the city late at night after completing all the necessary formalities.
