Bhopal: Dr Krishna Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, has been recognised by the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC).

Dr Kumar has been honoured with the Travel Scholar Award, presented during the International Surgical Week (ISW 2026), held in Mexico City as part of the 51st World Congress of the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC).

He received this distinction for his outstanding contributions to trauma management, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care.

Dr Kumar completed his MS in surgery from GMC Bhopal before joining as an assistant professor in the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Department, AIIMS Bhopal in 2020. He is currently serving as an assistant professor in the General Surgery Department.

Sharing his experience, Dr Kumar stated, “I am filled with gratitude for being selected as one of the few ISS Travel Scholars. It was a moment of immense pride. Presenting our research and engaging in sessions on the advances in surgical care, education, and global surgery provided fresh perspectives that I am eager to implement. I look forward to translating these global learnings into meaningful impact, contributing to excellence in surgical care, research, and education in my country and beyond.”

“I am also profoundly grateful to Prof. Amit Gupta and Prof. Dinesh Bagariya for their support and guidance for the future prospects. A special thank you to Prof. Sherry Wren and the associate editors of the World Journal of Surgery for the three-day round-table discussions. Their "behind-the-scenes" insights into scientific publishing were invaluable. I am grateful for the opportunity to have engaged with fellow scholars, aspiring medical students, and distinguished leaders in global surgery. These new friendships and professional networks are ones I intend to nurture for the long term. My sincere appreciation goes to the International Surgical Society (ISS/SIC) and the organising committees for a world-class congress,” he further added.

The International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) is a global professional organization dedicated to improving trauma care for surgical patients by fostering research, education, and the development of trauma systems.
