Doctor Arrested

Ballia: The Kotwali police on Monday arrested a doctor at a private hospital for alleged medical negligence following the deaths of a 27-year-old woman and her twin newborn daughters during delivery, officials said.

According to police, based on a written complaint filed on March 13 at the Kotwali police station by Sonu Yadav, the deceased woman’s husband, a case was registered against the doctor under Section 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS, reports PTI.

The incident took place when the pregnant woman went into labour and was admitted to a private hospital in Jagdishpur. Later on, during a surgical procedure, she and her twin newborns passed away.

In his complaint, Yadav alleged that when his wife Rinku Devi went into labour, he admitted her to a private hospital in Jagdishpur.

However, the woman and her twin newborns died during a surgical procedure due to the negligence of the doctors, the complaint alleged.

Circle Officer Mohammad Usman said that the doctor, who was arrested on Monday, has been sent to judicial custody.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a shocking incident, a woman died following a family planning surgery, prompting her relatives to stage a protest outside Chidambaram Government Hospital, demanding action against the medical staff involved. The deceased woman, identified as Vimala from Vellachiruppam village near Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, is survived by her three children, S. Prithika, S. Magizhini, and S. Magizhan.

She was admitted to the Kamarajar Government Hospital in Chidambaram on February 17 for surgery. However, she experienced certain complications after being discharged from the hospital. She began suffering from pain at the surgical site and seizures. Subsequently, she was readmitted to the same hospital on March 15.
