Prayagraj: Tensions emerged at the Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital after an alleged clash between lab technicians and junior doctors. They used sticks and rods to attack each other, leading to injuries on both sides.

The clash occurred after an alleged conflict between an emergency medical officer and a lab technician. Eventually, many students pursuing diplomas in medicinal laboratory technology (DMLT) reached the site and broke the glass door of a trauma room. Amidst this, many junior doctors also came to the spot and got into a fight leading to injuries on both sides.

The doctors and technicians were shifted to another ward to avoid harm to any patients. The police team at the SRN hospital police reached the site of the clash and attempted to calm down the doctors and technicians. They informed senior police officials about the incident, and additional police personnel arrived at the site.

An official associated with the Kotwali police told the Times of India, "The series of incidents started taking place when a junior doctor had arrived at pathology department to receive a report and had exchanged heated arguments with the lab technician." They alleged that employees at the pathology department manhandled the junior doctor, and when other junior doctors and their colleagues came to know about manhandling, they too arrived and thrashed the employees of the pathology department.

Both sides then announced a work boycott, with each putting the blame on the other side for the incident. The incident caused inconvenience to patients and attendants for around an hour, as per the Hindustan Times. The medical services, including emergency services, were restored by senior officials of the MLN Medical College, of which the SRN Hospital is an associate hospital, led by principal Dr. SP Singh, and SRN Hospital's chief superintendent Dr. Ajay Saxena who went to the hospital after the reported clash. They also promised to take action against those who were found guilty.

Dr. Singh said, "A committee to probe the incident has been set up. Efforts are underway to identify the culprits so that action can be taken against them," adding that the students who reached the spot from outside the hospital premises have been suspended for one month. Stating that none of the groups involved in the clash filed a complaint with the police, SSP-Prayagraj Shailesh Kumar Pandey said, "However, questioning at the spot revealed that two groups had a scuffle over some petty issue."
