Panchkula: In a video that has now gone viral over various media and social media, a doctor associated with the Panchkula Civil Hospital is seen being thrashed by the nurses of the hospital, after one of then alleged him of sexually harassing her.

As per the nurse who was posted in the COVID-19 ward, the said doctor, who is associated with the Psychiatry department of the Panchkula Civil Hospital, came for his "evening rounds" to the ward in a drunk state. She further alleged that he came to an isolated room and sexually harassed her.

The nurse in her FIR further added that she somehow managed to run out of the situation and created a noise outside, alerting the senior doctors and her colleagues. The drunk doctor upon seeing the commotion reportedly ran away from the hospital.

The next day when he came back to duty, he was met with a bunch of angry nurses, who taking matters into their own hands, thrashed him in front of public as well as media. They also staged a protest demanding strict action against the doctor

Based on the complaint of the nurse, an FIR has been filed against the doctor under IPC Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty). Moreover, the hospital has also formed an internal complaints committee to investigate the matter.

"The internal committee on sexual harassment has taken cognizance of the complaint and initiated an inquiry. The doctor already has been shunted out of the hospital," the CMO told the WEEK.

The doctor has been transferred out of the hospital pending inquiry

"Report of the ICC has been submitted to DG. The doctor has been deputed out of the district for 60 days. Police is also conducting a parallel inquiry," authorities at the hospital told the Indian Express.
