Viral Video Shows Staff Using Toilet Tap Water in Cooking Area at Jabalpur Medical College Conference

Jabalpur: A shocking video from a national-level medical conference at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College recently went viral on social media, showing workers allegedly taking water from a washroom tap near the commode, reportedly for use in cooking. The incident has sparked widespread criticism and controversy, as the food prepared with the same water was allegedly served to doctors attending the conference. However, the college authorities have denied these allegations, clarifying that the water was not used for cooking.

NDTV reported that several medical professionals from across the country, who attended the conference on February 6, consumed the food allegedly prepared with the water used in an unhygienic manner as shown in the video. If the circumstances in the video are found to be accurate then it could pose potential health risks and raise serious concerns about hygiene and safety issues at the medical college.

The viral video showed a worker filling water from a tap in a toilet area and the tap is positioned near the commode. A long green pipe could be seen in the video heading towards the outside. Through the pipe, the water was being taken out from the washroom to outside where a temporary kitchen was arranged in an open area with no roof and then filled in a bucket. 

The staff were preparing food for the participants who attended the annual ISSP conference held at the college’s New Academic Block. The event was attended by health department officials and medical professionals across the country. 

Following the uproar, the college administration has issued a clarification. Dr Navneet Saxena, Dean of the medical college, denied the claims that the water was used for cooking. “The video is being misrepresented. The water was only used for washing dirty utensils, not for food preparation,” he said. He claimed that the context of the video was being misrepresented.

Despite the explanation, the incident has drawn the attention of the health department. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Mishra has called for an investigation. 

He told NDTV, "The conference was organised in the New Academic Block and food is sometimes cooked in open spaces behind it. While the video shows water from a toilet tap being used, the information we have suggests it was meant only for washing utensils. However, since this has been brought to our notice, I have written to the dean for an official investigation."
