West Bengal MBBS student studying in Bangladesh allegedly hangs self

Rajshahi: In an unfortunate incident, an MBBS student from West Bengal, India allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside the hostel room of the Barind Medical College in Rajshahi.

As per various media accounts, the deceased medico has been identified as a fifth-year medical student of Barnid Medical College, Rajshahi, who was found dead in the hostel room on Friday, around 8.30 pm. The 25-year-old medical student hailed from Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India.

The primary investigation by Police suspected the incident to be a case of suicide. However, the Police are looking into the details. Meanwhile, the late medico's uncle and Rajshahi office of the assistant high commissioner of India has been informed about the incident and the body has been taken to Rajshahi Medical College for Autopsy.

The medico went back to his village in West Bengal as the college had been closed due to the pandemic. However, Dr. BK Dam, Principal of Barnid Medical College, has informed the Dhaka Tribune that the medico recently came back to Bangladesh and had been staying in a friend's house. After coming back to Rajshahi on Wednesday, the deceased started staying in the room at the foreign students' hostel.

While commenting on the details of the incident, Golam Maula, Superintendent of the hostel, has informed the Daily Star that on the day of the incident, after getting no response from the late medico's room for a while, his friends broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

Dr Dam has further informed Dhaka Tribune that the medical student's friends took him to the emergency department of the medical college immediately. However, the doctor in there declared him to be dead.

The principal Dr. Dam has further mentioned that the medico had been suffering from mental health issues and he had been taken to the doctor twice for this in the past.

When asked about the incident, Chandrima police station OC Shirajum Munir, informed the Dhaka Tribune, "We are looking into it. The body has been recovered and sent to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy."
