Woman doctor alleges sexual harassment on Delhi-Mumbai flight, Professor held

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 47-year-old professor has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a 24-year-old woman doctor on a Delhi-Mumbai flight.

The incident took place on Wednesday, an official said.

The 24-year-old victim and the accused were seated next to each other on the flight, which took off at 5.30 am from Delhi, the police official said.

“In her complaint, the woman doctor said that the accused touched her inappropriately sometime before the flight was about to land at the Mumbai airport,” he said.

An argument broke out between the two passengers, following which the victim informed the flight’s crew members, who intervened. After the flight landed at the Mumbai airport, they went to Sahar police station, he added.

As per a media report in The Indian Express, According to Sahar police, the professor, who hails from Patna, and the doctor, who is from Delhi, were seated next to each other on the flight, which took off from Delhi around 5.30 am Wednesday.

The professor has been booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, a case of sexual harassment was registered against the professor and he was arrested, the police official said.

The accused was produced in a court, which granted him bail, he said, adding that a probe was on.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in a shocking incident, a 32-year-old doctor allegedly raped an MBBS student on the pretext of marriage following which he was arrested by the Muzaffarpur police. The accused is a paediatrician in Magadh Medical College, Gaya and high drama ensued for two hours as the police team from Muzaffarpur arrived to arrest him.
