Chennai: 231 hospitals have received notices from Greater Chennai Corporation for not disclosing data of those patients who have been treated for flu-like symptoms and COVID-19 patient discharges.

The authorities also received reports that discharged patients have been instrumental in spreading the infection after their prompt discharge.
As per a recent media report by BW Healthcare World, the corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi held a meeting on August 13 and directed all the private hospitals to share information regarding the patients with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and the Covid-19 patients. An official mentioned that securing the data on fever cases can effectively help in tracing contacts and conducting focused testing to avoid clusters.
"We had shared the e-mail ID gccpvthospitalreports@chennaicorporation.gov.in with a format in which the data had to be mailed every day. But we haven't been receiving them," said Bedi.
"Many patients undergoing treatment for Covid-19 are discharged within 3-4 days and have to be in-home isolation after that. However, we recently came across a few cases where discharged patients were sources of new infections as they didn't follow the isolation protocols," stated assistant city health officer, Mahalakshmi.
The inspector also informed that despite the constant threat of the pandemic, some hospitals were allegedly not responsible enough to disinfect their premises on a regular basis.

Ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, the authorities have invoked strict actions against the hospitals which disregarded the guidelines and protocols determined by the authorities. A few months ago, a private hospital near Seelanaickenpatty had to cough up Rs 25000 after SMC officials found that the facility was reportedly disposing of medical waste without adhering to the government norms.

Several private hospitals have come under the radar of Salem Municipal Corporation (SMC) for flouting several government guidelines on disposal of medical waste and maintaining COVID appropriate behaviour.
