4 year old allegedly operated on wrong leg at Nuh Medical College, probe ordered
Haryana: A four-member inquiry committee has been constituted after a four-year-old child was allegedly operated on the wrong leg at Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College in Nuh, Haryana.
The hospital administration launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the child's family, who alleged medical negligence during the surgery. Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on July 20 when the child was admitted to the government medical college with an abscess in his leg that required surgery. The family alleged that doctors mistakenly operated on the child's right leg instead of the affected left leg.
The error reportedly came to light after the child was shifted out of the operation theatre. Family members noticed that the surgery had been performed on the wrong leg and immediately raised concerns with the hospital staff.
The complainant further alleged that the surgeon acknowledged the error after reviewing the ultrasound findings, which reportedly showed that surgery was required on the left leg. The family claimed that the child was later taken back for another procedure on the correct leg. They also alleged that they were told there was "nothing to worry about" and that the matter would be addressed.
Following the incident, the family submitted a written complaint to the hospital administration, seeking action over the alleged medical negligence.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Dr Mukesh Kumar, director, Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, said, “A written complaint regarding the matter has been received. A committee comprising four doctors has been constituted to conduct an inquiry. The investigation is being carried out under supervision. Further action will be taken once the inquiry is concluded”.
