8 Govt hospitals to get revamp at cost of Rs 605 crore, says Kerala Health Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: With an aim to strengthen the health infrastructure in the state, the Kerala health minister Veena George announced that the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has released Rs 605 crore for the renovation of eight hospitals in the state.
The minister stated that the financial sanction for the funds needed for the development of the hospitals has been approved.
Out of the total amount, Rs 50.06 crore have been allocated for Kozhikode Perambra Taluk Hospital, Rs 91.88 crore for Kollam Pathanapuram Taluk Hospital, Rs 76.51 crore for Thrissur Kunnamkulam Taluk Hospital, Rs 36.19 crore for Malappuram Kondotty Taluk Hospital, Rs 10.70 crore for Kannur District Hospital, Rs 11.21 crore for Ernakulam Kothamangalam Taluk Hospital, Rs 43.75 crore for Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, and 279.19 crores for Thrissur Medical College, Mother and Child Block, reports the Kerala Kaumudi.
The minister further noted that the procedures would be completed very soon and they would start the construction work as soon as possible.
The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) was constituted by the Government of Kerala as a Body Corporate financial institution in 1999 by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Act 1999 (Act 4 of 2000) with the main objective of providing investment for projects in the state. The main aim of KIIFB is to channelize funds for critical and large public infrastructure projects in Kerala. They have approved funding for projects covering important sectors like Healthcare, Education, Transportation, Water supply and Power supply.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the government's flagship health assurance scheme in Kerala, Ayushman Bharat-Karunya Aarogya Suraksha Padhati (AB-KASP), had put the secondary and tertiary care public sector hospitals of the state in a financial quandary as the latter are unable to settle bills due to the overdue claims and non-payment of settled claims amount by the government.
