Thrissur: In a special investigation, the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) have caught a gynaecologist and anaesthesiologist attached to the Chavakad Taluk Hospital in Thrissur district red-handed for allegedly accepting a bribe from an attendant of a patient.
The duo were caught accepting the bribe from a man whose wife was admitted to the gynaecology ward of the hospital and taken into custody on Wednesday.
They were identified as a 45-year-old gynaecologist and a 38-year-old anaesthetist. The doctor , who is a gynaecologist has allegedly accepted Rs 3000 as bribe while anaesthetist had accepted Rs 2000.

The husband of the patient informed the VACB officials that the two doctors had asked him for a bribe and the officials gave him Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 and asked him to hand over it to them. As he was handing over the money, the VACB team reached the spot and apprehended the two doctors.
According to a media report in TOI, the husband who reported the incident to the VACB officials claimed that the duo had demanded for conducting surgery of her wife's gynecological problems.
In order to trap the doctors, the vigilance team provided currency notes laced with a chemical to the attendant of the patient so that when the currency will be handed over to the doctors, the chemical will take their fingerprints and will be presented as evidence to the court. The chemical called Phenolphthalein is applied on the currency notes by Vigilance sleuths. The chemical leaves traces on the recipient, which is revealed in the form of a colour change when washed with another chemical solution.
The VACB officials have registered a case against the two doctors and are probing further.
