Ahmedabad: A middle-aged male patient at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre (UNMICRC) has taken his life by jumping off from the sixth floor of the hospital building.

The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Chauhan aged 55, who is a resident of Daskroi. 

The incident took place in the morning. Dinesh was suffering from a prolonged illness and was admitted to the civil hospital campus of the facility on April 17.

According to the police investigation, Dinesh jumped from the sixth floor of the building due to his illness which caused mental stress and is said to be the reason for his suicide.

K D Jadeja, an inspector of Shahibaug police station told TOI that the suicide happened around 8.30 am on Saturday.

After Dinesh fell from the sixth floor, he was taken to the hospital and was in a critical condition but the doctors there declared him dead. The unnatural death of the patient created panic among the staff and other patients in the hospital.

"He died on the spot. His relatives were questioned about the possible reasons, and they pointed to his protracted illness. We have lodged a case of accidental death and have started a further investigation to ascertain if there's a suicide note," said Jadeja.

Earlier Medical Dialogues team had reported that a first-year MBBS student of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) had allegedly attempted suicide by jumping off her hostel building. She jumped off the roof of the three-storied hostel building. The medico has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a critical condition.

She is said to be a native of Visakhapatnam. After getting the information, the local police arrived at the spot and initiated a probe to ascertain the cause behind her suicide attempt.
