AI-enabled cath lab soon at Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital Prayagraj
Prayagraj: A Prayagraj-based Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital (KNMH) is set to launch a modern AI-enabled Cath Lab facility starting this June.
The AI-powered Cath Lab will be capable of accurately detecting blockages in arteries, while its intelligent catheter navigation system will minimise human error and radiation exposure during procedures.
However, amid global geopolitical tensions, the Cath Lab machine arrived at the hospital ahead of schedule. Originally, this equipment was expected to arrive from Germany by sea in May; however, it was instead delivered by air (airlifted) on March 29 and subsequently installed.
Meanwhile, officials stated that the AI Cath Lab will significantly enhance the accuracy of procedures such as stent placement. Modern features, such as smooth gantry movement and superior imaging quality, will provide doctors with greater flexibility during operations.
Speaking to the TOI, in this regard, the Hospital Director Hari Om Singh stated that the machine has already been installed and will become operational once the work on the dedicated recovery room is completed.
He said, “This will be the third such AI cath lab facility in the country and the first in Uttar Pradesh. The project involves an investment of around Rs 20 crore”.
Under this initiative, this state-of-the-art system will assist in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases using high-definition 3D imaging technology.
The smart software integrated into the system will detect irregularities in processes in real-time, thereby enabling patients to receive safer and more effective treatment.
Meanwhile, to support this new facility, a separate recovery room is being prepared within the hospital premises. This unit will also provide integrated diagnostic services, such as ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, and X-rays, thereby eliminating the need for patients to move to different parts of the hospital for examinations.
This facility is expected to mark a significant advancement in the treatment of heart diseases in this region, providing state-of-the-art technology and enhanced patient care under a single roof.
