AIIMS Bhopal to introduce digital clinical decision support system for doctors
Bhopal- In a significant advancement in healthcare delivery, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal is set to launch a high-quality point-of-care clinical decision support system, developed by physicians, for use by clinicians, residents, nurses, and students.
The new system at AIIMS Bhopal is expected to make patient care more equitable, safe, and modern, even though the technology will largely operate behind the scenes.
Through this system, doctors will be able to quickly verify diagnoses, medication dosages, and treatment methods, which can help minimise errors and achieve better outcomes.
The system includes medical calculators, drug information and interaction checkers, as well as interactive clinical pathways that guide doctors step-by-step in treating common diseases. An integrated calculator will help estimate the risk of death and transfer the patient to the intensive care unit as soon as possible.
The tool will provide structured, evidence-based guidance at the point of care across various specialities, such as emergency medicine, cardiology, neurology, paediatrics, obstetrics, oncology, critical care, and infectious diseases.
According to institute officials, the software will be available round-the-clock on computers and mobile devices (Android and iOS), featuring offline capability for use in wards and areas with poor internet connectivity. Its content is reviewed by expert doctors, presented in a structured, searchable format, and regularly updated as new medical evidence emerges, according to a TOI report.
AIIMS Bhopal stated that the aim is to improve the quality of care by providing healthcare professionals with real-time access to evidence-based information right at the patient's bedside.
The rollout is also expected to enhance the clinical training of residents and medical students, enabling teams to make more consistent and guideline-based decisions in busy OPDs, wards, and emergency departments.
