AIIMS Nagpur becomes first AIIMS to get NABH accreditation, PM Modi congratulates the team
Nagpur: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur has become the first of all AIIMS to receive the prestigious NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers) accreditation, which is at par with the world's leading hospital accreditation standards.
AIIMS Nagpur is among the four AIIMS announced during the budget speech 2014-15 under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). The Foundation stone for the institute was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis at Sector 20, MIHAN on 14th April 2017.
In the dire times of the COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS Nagpur stepped up to the need of society by setting up sample collection & testing facilities as well as indoor and intensive care facility of approx. 500 beds in record time. It is one of the premier medical institutions in the region, established in 2018.

Taking to Twitter, the authorities of the AIIMS said, “This affirms our commitment to the highest quality patient care & safety and organisational efficiency.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated the team of AIIMS Nagpur to become the 1st of all AIIMS to receive the NABH accreditation. Sharing the tweet of AIIMS Nagpur, the Prime Minister tweeted, “Congratulations to the team at @AIIMSNagpur on this feat, setting a benchmark in delivering quality healthcare services.”
Congratulating the doctors and staff of the AIIMS Nagpur, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “Congratulations to the doctors & staff of @AIIMSNagpur for this great feat. With its state-of-the-art facilities & advanced infrastructure, the Institute has made remarkable progress in patient care, academics, & research and contributing hugely towards creating a healthy India.”
Speaking to TOI, Dr MH Rao, director of AIIMS-Nagpur, said, “The accreditation is a testament to its unwavering dedication towards delivering outstanding healthcare across all domains.”
Medical superintendent Dr Manish Shrigiriwar said, “This achievement underscores our confidence that AIIMS-Nagpur will continue to uphold its commitment to providing high-quality patient care and safety, solidifying its position as a pioneer in the healthcare field. With the NABH accreditation, AIIMS-Nagpur is poised to further elevate the level of healthcare it provides. Patients can rest assured that they will receive top-notch medical treatment and care here."
Talking about the praise received from the PM, Dr Shrigiriwar said, “Prime Minister’s recognition further highlights the significance of AIIMS-Nagpur’s achievement and serves as an inspiration for us to continue our pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery."
National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers), abbreviated as NABH, is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI), set up to establish and operate accreditation programme for healthcare organizations. Formed in 2005, it is the principal accreditation for hospitals in India.
The NABH process is rigorous and comprehensive and it assesses the hospital’s performance in various areas including patient care, safety, and organizational efficiency. NABH is globally recognized for healthcare grade and service.
