Belagavi: The Belagavi Cantonment Board has proposed several measures to improve services at Cantonment Board Hospital, including strengthening its workforce, expanding medical facilities, and seeking specialist doctors from the state government.

Officials said the 30-bed hospital admits between 30 and 40 patients every week, conducts two to three deliveries daily and caters to approximately 3,000 outpatients each month, the Times of India reported.

Board members highlighted the need to upgrade infrastructure, recruit additional doctors and support staff, and introduce more specialised medical services. The objective is to provide comprehensive treatment at the hospital itself and refer patients to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) or other hospitals only in critical cases.

During a special board meeting chaired by Brigadier Girish Upadhyay, the proposal was discussed at length. Belagavi MLA Asif Sait and Cantonment Board chief executive officer Sudam Manchalwar were also present during the discussion.

Discussing the necessary steps required to improve the healthcare services at Cantonment Board Hospital, the board has considered requesting the state government to deploy doctors to the hospital and to approve financial assistance from charitable organisations and philanthropists to upgrade the hospital's infrastructure.

Officials said that in case the premises were not enough, a proposal would be framed to expand the hospital building, reports the daily.

Members also discussed developing the hospital on the lines of BIMS, with additional specialist doctors and improved treatment facilities. The meeting also reviewed the road development at Cantonment limits. It was informed during the meeting that most of the projects are complete, except for the work on Ramghat Road, which is still underway.

Discussions were also held on providing pension benefits to 161 employees, setting up a women's gym at one of three identified places, and the board's banking-related matters.
