Bihar CM inaugurates 500-bed Jayprabha Medanta Hospital in Patna

After inaugurating the newly constructed Jaya Prabha Super Speciality Hospital, Kumar told news persons that the poor would get treatment at the rate fixed for the treatment of the class at National level. He said that the government employees would also get treatment at general rate at this hospital which would provide better Medicare facility to the people of Bihar, reports UNI.

"Today, I'm happy to inaugurate Jai Prabha Medanta Hospital... We've requested the hospital to open a cancer wing at the earliest as per the wish of late leader Jayaprakash Narayan. The poor will get a 25% reservation for treatment at the hospital," news agency ANI quoted Nitish Kumar as saying.

Keeping in mind the desire of Lok Nayak Jay Prakash Narain for treatment of cancer at this Hospital, the Chief Minister said that he had talked to Dr Naresh Trehan to start treatment for cancer at this Hospital.

Addressing the media, Kumar said, "Jaiprakash Narayan Ji had a desire that a cancer hospital should be established in the state. We have requested the authorities to start the cancer wing of the hospital soon."

Hospital's associate medical director, Dr Ravi Shankar, told TOI that they will start with 330 beds initially and increase the number of beds to 500 in future depending on the occupancy rate. Dr Shankar said doctors from across the globe have been roped in to render their services at Jai Prabha Medanta in Patna.

"The hospital will offer doctor-driven, multi-disciplinary approach to treatment across: cardiology & cardiac surgery, neurology & neurosurgery, gastroenterology & hepatology* (* execution in progress), gastro surgery, urology & nephrology, orthopaedics & joint replacement, gynaecology*, radiology, respiratory medicine, internal medicine, diabetes & endocrinology, dental sciences*, critical care & anaesthesiology and radiology," the facility said in its recent release.

Jay Prabha Medanta Super Specialty Hospital has a gross area size of approximately 1.0 million sq. ft., is spread across 7 acres and is designed to accommodate 500 beds# (#proposed), 112 critical care beds# and 14 operating theatres#. It is expected to have 300 installed beds by Fiscal 2022.

Sharing the efforts initiated by him for revival of Jay Prabha Hospital, Kumar said that Jay Prabha hospital was started in 1979 and after coming to power in 2005 several possibilities were explored to run it.

The Chief Minister said that the chairman come managing director of Medanta, Dr Naresh Trehan agreed to run the Hospital and the foundation stone of Jay Prabha Medanta Hospital was laid in 2006. The OPD in this Hospital began last year, he informed.

As per recent ANI report, Kumar further informed that the poor people will be able to get treatment in the hospital at a discount of 25 per cent.
