CM MK Stalin inaugurated 12 new buildings at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH)

Madurai: Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) has recently completed the construction of 12 new buildings at the hospital premises. In a video conference from Chennai, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated the 12 new buildings. 

The building had taken about ₹62.35 crores to establish. On the occasion Collector V. Vishnu, Tirunelveli MP S. Gnanathiraviam, Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab and Dean, TVMCH, M. Ravichandran were present.

The 12 newly inaugurated building comes with hostels and mess halls for the undergraduate students and interns as well as lecture halls and a medico-legal inquest hall.

CM M. K. Stalin also inaugurated a 32-bedded hybrid intensive care unit at Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital (TKMCH).

The newly inaugurated hybrid unit has updated facilities and costs ₹96 crores to establish. With a total of 20 beds for seriously ill patients and another 12 for pediatrics, the newly inaugurated centre will be monitored 24/7 by nurses at the centre's nursing stations.

On the occasion Collector K. Senthil Raj, Mayor Jegan Periyasamy, Dean of TKMCH, Nehru, Resident Medical Officer Silas Jayamani and others were present.

Dr. Nehru, Dean of TKMCH told TH, "Since vital health parameters of all these 32 patients can be monitored from the nursing stations, there is no need for the nurses to sit by the side of the patients."

Tirunelveli Medical College (TVMC) is a government-run postgraduate research institute in southern India, wholly owned and administered by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, State Government of Tamil Nadu. They are ranked among the top 50 medical institutes in India under the NIRF Ranking 2021 of the Govt of India, recognized by the National Medical Commission of India (medical programs), Nursing Council of India (nursing programs), and affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

All the services are provided free of cost to people below poverty. Now 1112 beds are available in our Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital. An average of 2800 Out-patients and 590 In-patients are treated here daily. Moreover, an average of 465 deliveries, 630 major surgeries, 460 minor surgeries and 160 family welfare sterilizations are carried out here per month.
