Delhi Govt plans major redevelopment of MAMC-LNJP medical hub
Delhi- The Delhi government is planning a major redevelopment of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre, and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, with officials stating that a consultancy firm will be appointed to prepare a roadmap for the project.
A key feature of this proposal is the construction of a rooftop helipad, designed to facilitate the rapid transport of organs, critically ill patients, and emergency medical teams. This will significantly improve response times in life-saving situations, which could also be utilised for the movement of VIPs.
Officials further stated that plans have also been made for a dedicated power infrastructure, high-capacity digital networking, a biomedical waste management system, and enhanced campus security, as per the HT news report.
The plan envisions a highly integrated healthcare complex featuring dedicated emergency transit corridors, underground and skywalk connectivity between institutions, an improved road network, and modern traffic management systems.
Under the proposed redevelopment, large centralised parking facilities, multi-storied residential complexes for doctors, nurses, students, and staff, as well as separate hostels for undergraduate and postgraduate students, are planned.
This project also includes a convention centre, a central library, a multidisciplinary research facility, a central reception block, affordable accommodation for patient attendants, sports and recreational facilities, a cafeteria, and a facility management centre.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that approval has been granted for a comprehensive and holistic study for the redevelopment of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus. She said the 137-acre Maulana Azad Medical College campus includes key institutions like Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Nanak Eye Centre, and the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences.
The first phase will involve preparing a detailed master plan for the entire campus, ensuring full compliance with local body regulations, norms of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and all other applicable statutory provisions.
