Doctor shortage at UCMS amid COVID crisis: Faculty writes to HRD Ministry, Delhi LG, DDMA

New Delhi: Concerned with the shortage of Doctors in University College Of Medical Sciences (UCMS), the medical faculty of the institute has moved the HRD Ministry, DDMA and Delhi LG for urgent intervention in the matter.

The doctors have blamed the delay in recruitment and promotions for the shortfall of doctors in the medical institute. 

In their letter to the Human Resource and Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Chairman at Delhi Disaster Management Authority and Delhi lieutenant Governor, the medical college's teachers association tried to bring the authorities attention to the shortfall of more than 200 doctors (-100 faculty and 100 Senior Residents) in UCMS which is associated with COVID designated GTB hospital in east Delhi.

They stated, "Many facilities left UCMS due to delay in promotions and no faculty recruitment happened in the last decade, so much so that at present UCMS in struggling with a shortfall of 100+ faculty."

Seeking urgent intervention of the authorities, the faculty added that the senior Residents have not been recruited in last 4 years, which has resulted in a shortfall of around 100 senior residents in UCMS.

They further submitted that they had written multiple letters/ emails to the vice-chancellor of the University of Delhi and other competent authorities but it is still a work in progress.

The association also took to twitter urging the concerned to take action. They wrote, "Requesting @LtGovDelhi as Chairman DDMA & COVID19 management committee & @DrRPNishank for urgent intervention in the shortage of 200+ doctors, delay in recruitment & promotions of doctors in COVID-only UCMS-GTB Hospital@AmitShah @ArvindKejriwal @SatyendarJain".

University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) is a medical college in Delhi, India, affiliated with the University of Delhi. It is associated with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, which serves as the teaching hospital.
