Common faculty cadre for medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has introduced a common cadre system for faculty appointments in state-run government medical colleges, aiming to improve the overall quality of medical education and healthcare services.
The faculty members include professors, associate professors and assistant professors in Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College in Mandi, Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Hamirpur and Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba, news agency PTI reported.
The move is aimed at standardising faculty requirements and optimising faculty utilisation, ensuring transparent career progression, the notification said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a move aimed at enhancing the quality of medical education and healthcare services, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the state government will establish a common cadre for faculty appointments in all government medical colleges and super-speciality institutions.
In an official statement, Sukhu explained that currently, faculty appointments follow a college-specific cadre system, which results in administrative redundancies, inconsistencies in service conditions, and a severe shortage of faculty, especially in newly established medical colleges.

It has set new terms and conditions for the implementation of the ‘Common Cadre System’ in the newly opened medical colleges of the state.
The government stated that the move aims to ensure uniformity in recruitment, appointment, promotion and career progression, harmonise service conditions and facilitate equitable and need-based transfer of faculty across institutions, thereby eliminating disparities and promoting efficient management of human resources.
Faculty members posted in the new institutes will not be transferred to established institutions, namely IGMC Shimla, AIMSS Chamiana and Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, to ensure the stabilisation and efficient functioning of the newly established medical colleges.
