Pune: Chaos erupted on the campus of Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre in Pimpri, Chinchwad, after the Dean was alerted about a potential Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the premises. However, police later confirmed that the threat was a hoax.

Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Pimpri Chinchwad police units responded to the threat on Wednesday morning after the Dean informed them that a bomb might be implanted on the campus.

According to The Indian Express, during the first campus check, no suspicious devices were discovered, according to the police. According to a Pimpri Chinchwad police officer, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a mail was sent to the official mail address of the dean of D Y Patil Medical College and Hospital.

A Code Black was proclaimed by the hospital, indicating that everyone present was in danger. Authorities cooperated with police teams in their search and activated all necessary emergency measures. An investigation of the sender's email address has been initiated. “Teams from Sant Tukaramnagar police station, Pimpri Chinchwad police headquarters, and BDDS were pressed into action. A thorough sweep of the campus was conducted. No suspicious object was found,” said the police officer.

Dr Rekha Arcot was informed about the IED being implemented on the campus by an unknown source. She confronted a risk to the security of the institution right after taking over as the new dean of the institute.

When contacted, Dr Rekha Arcot, dean of Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, said, “The security and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are of utmost importance to us. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities in investigating this matter and have implemented the necessary security measures across the campus.”
