Dr D Y Patil Medical College Pimpri inaugurates 3 specialised healthcare centres

Pune: Dr D Y Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, inaugurated three specialised healthcare centres focusing on organ transplantation, mother-and-child care, reproductive medicine and endoscopy on Monday. 

According to the news reports, the centres— Yashraj Prasad Patil Multi-Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence, Bhagyashree Aai & Gokul Mother & Child Centre and IVF & Endoscopy Centre — are aimed at providing patients with specialised treatment and advanced medical services under one roof.

The multi-organ transplant centre will cater to patients requiring complex transplantation and critical care, particularly those with end-stage heart and lung disease and other serious conditions. The facility has specialised equipment, infection-control systems and dedicated air-handling systems designed for transplant patients.

The centre will also provide medical students and postgraduate trainees with exposure to transplant procedures and technology.

According to the hospital, it has performed more than 550 organ transplants involving the heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, cornea and liver. More than 50 heart and lung transplants have been carried out over the past three years.

The Bhagyashree Aai & Gokul Mother & Child Centre will provide specialised services for mothers, newborns and children, bringing maternal, neonatal and paediatric care together. The centre will provide care across different stages of pregnancy as well as childhood.

The IVF & Endoscopy Centre will offer reproductive medicine and endoscopic services, including fertility-related treatment and advanced endoscopic procedures.

Speaking to TOI, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetratai Ajit Pawar said the mother-and-child centre would address healthcare needs of women and children, while the IVF and endoscopy centre would expand access to specialised services. “The health of mothers and children is fundamental to the health of society. The IVF and Endoscopy Center is another important step towards meeting future healthcare needs, while the transplant centre reflects the hospital’s growing capabilities in complex transplantation,” she said. 

Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar said bringing multiple specialised services together could reduce the need for patients to travel between hospitals for critical treatment and improve access to advanced healthcare.

The hospital has 2,011 beds, including 181 ICU beds and a 45-bed NICU. It also has 32 modular operation theatres and two cardiac catheterisation laboratories, besides round-the-clock laboratory and radiology services, robotic surgery facilities, a 24-hour dialysis unit and transplant services.

The facility caters to around 11 lakh patients annually and performs approximately 50,000 surgeries every year.
