Kochi: The Ernakulam Medical College Hospital will soon launch a new critical care unit at the hospital premises at a cost of Rs 23.75 crores. The project is expected to be completed in one year. 

An official informed TOI, that the unit will be built on an area of 40,000 sqft. In response to the huge demands of the patients to build more units at the hospital, the hospital authorities have decided to establish the critical care unit which will include four emergency trauma operation theatres, four minor operation theatres, 20 ICU beds, 50 high-dependency beds, and more.

The unit will have a huge space to take loads of patients and treat them accordingly. With the unit, patients will have access to all the important facilities they will need in an emergency situation in one place.

Meanwhile, the hospital got the permission to start the construction of the critical care unit on the land from a team of officials from the John Hopkins Programme for International Education in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, New Delhi, and the National Health Mission. The team visited the hospital on Wednesday.

Government Medical College Ernakulam, (GMCE), Ernakulam is one of the premier medical institutions in the Kerala state. The college was governed by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education established by the Government of Kerala. Later on December 17, 2013, the Government has taken over the institution and now it is governed and managed by the Government of Kerala. 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Karkinos Healthcare, a technology-driven, oncology focussed managed health care platform, has launched 'Advanced Center For Cancer Diagnostics and Research' in Kochi. The center was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan.
