Father alleges medical negligence after boy dies of snakebite at Thiruvananthapuram Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a boy died at the Taluk Hospital in Chirayinkeezhu following a snakebite, with his father accusing the hospital of failing to provide timely and appropriate treatment. He further alleged that the doctor on duty did not even conduct a physical examination of the child.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Dikshal, who died on Thursday morning after being bitten by a cobra while sleeping. He was the eldest son of Dilip and Anu of Azhoor Mulel House. The family became aware of the incident at 4:00 AM. However, the snake was caught later in the house.
After the incident, the child was immediately taken to the Taluk Hospital in Chirayinkeezhu and later referred to the Medical College Hospital. However, doctors could not save his life.
His father levelled serious allegations against the hospital. He claimed that his son did not receive proper treatment at the hospital and further alleged that the doctor on duty did not even conduct a physical examination of the child.
The deceased's father said, ‘We didn’t see the snake. I couldn't say for sure that it was a snakebite. Only the nurse there touched and examined him. The doctor was seeing everything. Even when my son said that he couldn’t breathe, they didn’t do anything. Stood there for 10 minutes. They told us to take him in an ambulance immediately. Even before reaching the medical college, he was found motionless”, reports KeralaKaumudi.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that, holding the Max Super Speciality Hospital and its neurosurgeon liable for medical negligence, unfair trade practice and deficiency in service during the treatment of a patient suffering from Degenerative LCS and Listhesis L5/S1, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, SAS Nagar, Mohali, has directed them to pay Rs 4.75 lakh to his kin.
