Lucknow- Panic gripped the Lok Bandhu Hospital complex in Ashiana on Friday morning after a massive fire broke out in the false ceiling of the Asha Jyoti Kendra's waiting area, reportedly due to a short circuit.

The incident occurred around 5:50 a.m., when flames spread through the false ceiling, and smoke filled parts of the building, causing breathing difficulties for some security personnel. The electrical panel and sections of the false ceiling were damaged in the incident.

Following the incident, the Asha Jyoti Kendra administration immediately alerted senior officials. Subsequently, hospital staff arrived at the scene and used fire extinguishers to douse the fire. They managed to bring the fire under control after about 30 minutes of effort. However, there are no reports of any casualties, according to a TOI report.

Following instructions from Chief Fire Officer Dharmpal Singh, two fire tenders were also dispatched to the hospital. By the time the firefighters arrived, the hospital's fire safety team had already brought the situation under control.

According to the Fire Media Cell, the fire originated in the electrical panel board of the Asha Jyoti Centre. Fire personnel subsequently brought the situation fully under control using hose lines.

Before this, the hospital had also faced a fire near an ICU and wards on April 14, 2025, in which medical equipment and treatment records were destroyed. Additionally, around 200 patients were shifted to other hospitals, while one person lost their life in the incident.

Following the fire last year, work began on installing a fire-resistant false ceiling and an automatic sprinkler system at a cost of approximately ₹3 crore. However, the project remains incomplete even after more than a year.

Medical Dialogues had recently reported a similar case where panic broke out after a massive fire erupted in a laboratory on the fourth floor of the Nursing College building at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar.
