Haryana Assembly Speaker Inspects Kalpana Chawla Medical College

Karnal: Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan conducted an inspection of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital in Karnal on Thursday. During his visit, Kalyan met with the director and faculty heads to inquire about the functioning of the institute and identify areas for improvement.

According to the news reports, officials said that the Speaker expressed concerns over several operational issues, particularly the practice of referring patients without sufficient justification. He criticized the negligent behaviour of some doctors towards patients, stressing that such actions were unacceptable.

During his visit, Director MK Garg, Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, Assandh MLA Yogendra Rana, and others were present.

The Speaker also visited the casualty ward, where he interacted with patients to understand the quality of medical services being provided. He took the opportunity to seek clarification from a doctor regarding the services offered, further emphasizing the need for better utilization of the hospital’s available resources.

As per the recent media report by Hindustan Times, he added, “This is a big issue at this time. Doctors should also mention the details of the patients who come in emergency and the treatment given till the time of referral. It is the moral responsibility of doctors to make full use of the facilities.”

Furthermore, Kalyan directed the hospital management to appoint a nodal officer to address complaints after MLA Jagmohan Anand raised concerns about doctors not responding to his calls.

In his statement following the visit, Kalyan outlined several areas where the state government would need to make policy decisions, including filling vacant posts, purchasing new equipment, and enhancing security arrangements. He also mentioned that this was the first time he had received detailed information about the institute since taking over the post.

He asked the doctors to work better as a team so that the patients also benefit, and the image of the institute is also not tarnished. It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain the reputation of the institute”, reports HT.
