Bomb threat

Erode: A bomb threat at the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai on Wednesday morning prompted authorities to take action, only for the scare to be deemed a hoax following a thorough search by police personnel.

According to the reports, the threat email was discovered by hospital staff around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, prompting Dean T. Ravikumar to immediately inform District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara. The Collector, in turn, alerted Superintendent of Police G. Jawahar. In response, a swift and coordinated effort was launched to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

Following this, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and police personnel from Erode were deployed and the entire premises were searched.

To prevent any panic among the 4,000-plus outpatients, a holiday was declared for students, and staff worked quickly to ensure that the situation remained calm. In-patients, out-patients, visitors, and attendants were advised not to touch any unidentified objects, and the hospital followed its standard operating procedures for such emergencies. The search, which took place across the hospital's sprawling campus ended at 5 p.m. with the police declaring the threat a hoax.

This incident follows a series of bomb threats that occurred in Erode earlier in the week. As per the recent media report by The Hindu, two private schools in Erode received bomb threats on Tuesday, both of which turned out to be hoax messages.
