ICMR allots 800 bedded AIIMS Jhajjar exclusively for COVID-19 patients

New Delhi: Making a move towards setting up standalone hospitals exclusively for the treatment of coronavirus patients, the government has now assigned the newly built 800 bedded building of AIIMS Jhajjar for the said purposes 

AIIMS building in Haryana's Jhajjar will be used exclusively to treat COVID-19 patients, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Balram Bhargava said here on Sunday.

"This will be a better idea to treat people suffering from Covid-19 in designated hospitals. We have identified National Cancer Institute under All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Covid-19 ,which is a 800-bed hospital in Haryana's Jhajjar," said Balram Bhargava, Director General at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi and Secretary, Department of Health Research, a division under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

Further talking about stepping up the COVID-19 testing he said,"We have increased the government laboratories to 111, while at least 60 private labs have been registered," 

"Many of them are being approved as we speak," he added.

AIIMS Jhajjar, or the Jhajjar extension of the AIIMS New Delhi campus is situated Lhajjar Tehsil Badli, Jhajjar District, Badsa, Haryana. It was set up to strengthen research and also bring down the patient load at All India Institute of Medical Sciences' (AIIMS) cancer centre. Government has also established the National Cancer Institute (NCI) within the campus of AIIMS Jhajjar

Meanwhile in view of the increasing threat of coronavirus infection, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi OPD services is reported to have been shut .

"All OPD services in All India Institute of Medical Sciences and all centres to remain closed till further orders", quoted ANI.
