Kalyanpur Hospital ward boy under scrutiny over social media posters claiming MBBS credentials

Kanpur: A ward boy working at a private hospital in the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur has come under scrutiny after posters circulated on social media purportedly showed him as an MBBS doctor and ICU specialist. The posters also carried details of the hospital’s facilities and treatments.

According to reports, the posters were shared from the ward boy’s social media account before being widely circulated online. His name appeared alongside the claimed medical qualifications and the designation of an ICU specialist.  

The development has raised questions over the credentials being presented by hospital staff and whether patients could be misled about the role and qualifications of the person attending to them.

Local residents have called for verification of the ward boy’s educational and professional credentials. They have also sought scrutiny of the qualifications and registrations of doctors working at the hospital.

Following the controversy, the ward boy clarified that he had accidentally shared the poster on social media and said he had no intention of portraying himself as a doctor. However, as the poster mentions MBBS doctor and ICU specialist along with his name, the matter needs to be investigated, Bhaskar English reported.

The matter has now come to the attention of the health department. The Additional Chief Medical Officer said that the allegations will be investigated and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.

The probe will examine who prepared the posters, why the MBBS and ICU specialist claims were included and whether the hospital management was aware of their circulation. 

Officials will also verify the ward boy’s actual qualifications and examine whether any rules were violated in connection with the representation of his medical credentials.
