Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a shocking incident, an assistant superintendent of a district civil hospital in Chikalthana and another person have been booked for allegedly transferring Rs 14.91 lakh from the hospital’s bank account using a cheque bearing a forged signature, police said.
The Cidco MIDC police registered a case following a complaint lodged by the hospital’s administrative officer, who also serves as its drawing and disbursing officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Ratnakar Navale said the case was registered after the alleged unauthorised transaction came to light.
According to the complaint, a cheque drawn on the hospital’s bank account was allegedly signed fraudulently on October 19, 2026, at around 1.30 pm. The cheque was subsequently issued in the second individual’s name, following which Rs 14,91,272 was credited to his bank account.
The alleged irregularity came to light after the hospital's administrative officer questioned the transaction, which was reportedly found to be unjustified. The matter was brought to the notice of senior officials before a police complaint was lodged.
The incident has raised concerns over the security of government funds and the handling of cheques kept in the custody of hospital officials.
Police registered the case on Thursday night and launched an investigation to determine how the cheque was prepared, signed and processed to facilitate the transfer. Investigators are examining banking records, cheque-related documents and the transaction trail to establish the sequence of events.
The probe will seek to establish the respective roles of the two individuals booked in the case, whether they acted together to facilitate the alleged transfer and whether anyone else was involved.
“We are yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the transaction. The allegations against the accused will be subject to investigation,” Navale said, adding that the possibility of involvement of other people cannot be ruled out, reports TOI.
