MIMS inspection reveals lapses in patient care
Mandya: The Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), a government-run hospital in Mandya, came under severe scrutiny during a surprise inspection by Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar. The recent inspection has raised serious concerns about the quality of healthcare provided to the poor and underprivileged who rely on government hospitals for affordable medical services.
As per the recent media report by Hans India, upon inspection on Thursday the Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Kumar, encountered wards filled with unkempt conditions, heaps of garbage everywhere, and doors missing from restrooms. The MIMS hospital has been consistently in the news for controversies, and the District Commissioner’s surprise visit yesterday highlighted the ongoing chaos within the facility.
The inspection, which covered several key areas of the hospital, including outpatient services, surgical units, and both men's and women's wards, left the Deputy Commissioner visibly disturbed by the observed negligence. The sight of filthy wards, discarded bedding, and unclean bed sheets contributed to the DC's dissatisfaction. Additionally, it was found that no water was available in the restrooms, and the negligence of the officials in securing the women’s restroom doors was also apparent.
Seeing the numerous issues first-hand, DC Kumar appeared visibly exhausted. He reprimanded the MIMS Director, Dr Narasimhamurthy, and Superintendent Dr Shivakumar, asking them, “Are you treating people as animals? Would you keep your own home in such a state?”
Furthermore, adding to the already concerning state of affairs, members of the public expressed their concerns about widespread corruption during the inspection. Patients and their families alleged that doctors and hospital staff were demanding bribes for treatment, further exacerbating the financial burden on already struggling patients.
Following the inspection, Dr. Kumar convened a meeting with hospital officials and staff, directing them to take immediate action to address the various issues he had uncovered.
