Patna: An incinerator would be installed at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for the scientific disposal of biomedical waste released from the hospital, as per an order issued by the Divisional Commissioner (DC) Kumar Ravi on Tuesday.  

Further, he also ordered the setting up of an organic waste convertor machine to dispose of municipal and other waste items. The hospital officials are required to get in touch with the health department to install the appliances.

A meeting of the executive body of Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) was held, in which the chairman Ravi said that providing citizens with quality-based and reliable treatment facilities is the government's need of the hour. Further, they directed the hospital to ensure adequate stock of all medicines. 

The meeting was attended by the Superintendent and principal of NMCH, the civil surgeon and other health department officials. The hospital has 40 pathological, microbiological and biochemical tests, services like CT scans, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray running on private-public partnership mode. 

The commissioner also renewed the patient welfare work and directed the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) to establish phaco machine for surgery in the eye department, as per a media report in the Times of India.   

The aim of the initiative is to reportedly create a scientific and environment-friendly system for the disposal of huge quantities of waste.

Nalanda Medical College and Hospital is a public medical college located at Kankarbagh Road near Bazar Samiti, established in the year 1970 which is affiliated to the Aryabhatta Knowledge University in Patna. It offers MBBS undergraduate courses, and post-graduate courses in medicine, surgery, gynaecology, anaesthesiology, paediatrics, dermatology, orthopaedics, ENT, preventive and social medicine, pathology, pharmacology, forensic medicine and toxicology, microbiology, physiology, and biochemistry.
