Bengaluru: NU hospital to launch Versius Robotic Surgical System soon to treat patients with ease. Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Chairman of Manipal Global Education, Tv Mohandas Pai will be inaugurating the event scheduled on April 23.

Versius has been designed to enable surgeons to perform more minimal access surgery so that more patients can have access to the highest quality of surgical care. The practical, innovative technology integrates seamlessly into workflows and resets expectations of modern robotic surgery.

Versius provides freedom of port placement to best suit the needs of each patient, allowing surgeons to operate the way they did laparoscopically with all the benefits of robotic surgery. Versius has a small, lightweight and modular design that can be moved effortlessly between departments to help hospitals maximize its utilisation. The small-scale design, enabled by unique v-wrist technology, means that it is suitable for virtually any operating room.

Versius works seamlessly and safely among the team. The collaborative arms and bedside units can be set up and adjusted so the surgical team has direct access to the patient throughout an entire procedure. With open design architecture including an open console, Versius allows for clear verbal and non-verbal communication between the surgeon and surgical team.

The suite of fully-wristed instruments, combined with enhanced 3D HD vision, gives surgeons a high level of accuracy when performing complicated procedural steps or operating in hard-to-reach areas. While speaking with the Hans India at a press conference on Tuesday, Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh MK, Senior Consultant- Paediatric Urologist, Robotic and Renal Transplant Surgeon, and Managing Director of NU Hospitals said "Robotic surgery would be a system where a surgeon sits at a console away from the patient on the operation table and when he moves the joystick the instruments in the body of the patient moves. This helps in precision for the surgery."

"It is the future of surgery as robotics can be used for complex procedures. For patients, the advantages of robotic surgery mean less pain, smaller scars, and early recovery. We are introducing robotic surgery so that we can do more complex reconstructive surgeries with minimally invasive techniques," he added.

Director of NU Hospitals, Ramachandra M said "This is the first nephro-urology super specialty hospital in India where the CMR Versius Robot is being installed. For this purpose, NU Hospitals are now equipped with trained surgeons, anesthesiologists and OR teams, and the full CMR Versius Robotic surgical system."
